Extreme love, extreme loneliness
During the SVA Summer Residency, Anna Raff asked us to create a series of illustration starting from a short story. I chose Haruki Murakami’s Confession of a Shinagawa Monkey — a surreal tale about a monkey who speaks Japanese and secretly falls in love with human women (and steals their IDs). I was drawn to its quiet strangeness and emotional undercurrents.
My illustrations aimed to capture the story’s mood and themes of loneliness, memory, and identity, using simple compositions and contrasting colors.
